Kaia the kangaroo was recently rescued from Ohio by Stokoe Farms in Scottsville, NY. An employee who was caring for the roughly seventh month old kangaroo, an animal that needs to be in a pouch at all times at that age, had taken the animal home to Yates county for the weekend to care for it when it escaped Saturday afternoon.

Julie Niedzwick from Stokoe Farms said the rescue could not have happened without the many volunteers and prayers through the night from the people in Jerusalem and Penn Yan, who ultimately were able to locate Kaia in a vineyard near Coates Road around 10 AM this morning before amassing a group large enough to completely surround the animal, ultimately capturing her safely just after noon today, when she pounced into the arms of Yates County Sheriff's Deputy Scott Walker.
